In order for you as a student - at any level - to Prepare...Understand...and Grow, you need someone in your corner who will Listen...Care...Understand...and Share.
Tutoring is a long-term investment in your educational process. It takes more than a one-shot session to help you navigate the potentially rough seas of academia. You need someone you can trust, confide in, believe is in your corner at all times. We are here for you.
We at TutorPUG truly want to help. We have all been called to teach, coach, mentor or instruct in some way in our lives.
All of us will admit to being caught in an academic pickle at some point in our learning careers. Please don't think of us as just a "tutor"...we want to form a long-term learning relationship with the student. We are your advocate. We truly strive to be the student's best friend.
Parents. Peer pressure. Boyfriends, girlfriends, family issues. You're grounded, your dog died, you didn't make the team. And you are convinced your teacher is speaking Swahili and everyone else gets it - all of it - except you.
We all have been there. Even the smartest kid in the class struggles with something. (Maybe not math...but something. Promise.)
Our philosophy towards tutoring is that academic preparation for a subject is just one small factor contributing to a student's overall success. We are your partner in the whole picture. We listen, we care, we understand, we share.
We are more than just math. We are more than just school. We are your academic partner in your preparation for life.
who are we?
Our "pack" consists of experienced tutors from all kinds of backgrounds - from Accounting to Zoology (get it? A to Z?)- in order to offer a comprehensive list of services to clients.
Alpha Dog, Founder and Tutor
Katie Kimberling found a hidden love and natural talent for teaching more than twenty years ago. She has always incorporated some type of connection with teenagers and college students throughout her career(s). She has been tutoring as her full-time job for more than fifteen years. In an effort to expand the services that TutorPUG offers, and connect on a deeper level with her clients, Katie began the process to become officially certified and accredited as an ACC level Academic Life Coach by the International Coaching Federation (ICF). She expects to achieve her credentials by March of 2020. Katie attended Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME, and holds a BS in Zoology (which her mother says qualifies her to clean up after elephants at the zoo), and an MPH in Biostatistics/Epidemiology from OU.

'Leader of the Pack,' Director of Operations and Tutor.
Shelby is a recent first-generation graduate of Binghamton University in New York, where she earned two B.S. degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry, with a minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. She graduated summa cum laude and with a range of accolades to her name, including the President's Award (Spring 2018) and the Chancellor's Award (Spring 2019), the highest honors in the State University of New York system for her academic achievement and extracurricular involvement. She enjoyed spending time in her inorganic chemistry research lab, where she was a contributor to several published scientific papers, as well as volunteering as an EMT at a local ambulance agency, working as a mentor with low-income students, and fundraising for her sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. She has been tutoring both privately and for her academic institutions for the past 6 years, in subjects ranging from freshman writing to MCAT prep (she scored in the 98th percentile on her own MCAT!) to advanced molecular photochemistry. She serves as both a top notch chemistry tutor in every chemistry known to man, and as the Director of Operations for TutorPUG. If Shelby can't solve the problem, it's a problem that cannot be solved.

With his strong chemistry and physics background, John can "cook up" the right solution to your learning needs. He received his Bachelors degree in Chemistry from Baylor University in 2014, and received his Masters in Chemical Engineering from OU in 2019. Growing up in Texas, he played baseball and football throughout high school, and continues his love of sports by coaching high school baseball. When he is not deriving or integrating equations, or making neato volcanoes out of baking soda and vinegar, he enjoys bowling, watching sports, and cooking fajitas. John has a natural gift for teaching, and has never worked with a single student who didn't love him. Excitingly, John recently got married!
Subjects: General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Geometry, Precalculus, Trigonometry, Calculus, ACT, SAT
'The Physicist', Tutor
Tommy has an extensive background in math and physics, and if that's not enough for you, he recently elected to challenge himself by teaching himself the subtle nuances of business calculus, which he claims he's been "enjoying." Tommy will soon hold a degree in physics from OU. He likes to spend some time each day practicing guitar, and also likes to go for runs, especially in spring. Tommy loves a good story (who doesn't?) regardless of the medium - movies, shows, books, or games - and clearly loves dogs as much as the rest of the TutorPUG pack!
Subjects: Any and all math, any and all physics
'The Cadaver Dog', Anatomy Tutor
If you’re feeling like a cadaver yourself when it comes to anatomy, don’t worry, MK can help. She is an Occupational Therapy graduate student at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center in Oklahoma City and has been passionate about the field of anatomy basically her entire life. She understands anatomy can be a grueling subject, and she wants to help you not just to learn the right words and body parts, but also to understand how to interact with the subject on a practical level. When MK is not studying, she spends her time watching movies and hanging out with friends.
'That Guy', Tutor
Every group has "that guy." The nicest guy in the room - gets along with everyone, serves his country, friendly, easy-going, smart, AND has great taste in dogs. Meet Joe, TutorPUG's "that guy." He is a Petroleum Engineering major at the University of Oklahoma, and is also a proud member of the Oklahoma Air National Guard. He just spent eight months away from school at Basic Training and beyond, but has returned to help TutorPUG students again - and we're all thrilled to have him back! Joe says, "I have loved math since I was a kid and love to be able to share my knowledge with others." He's pictured here with "Tug" the Pug...who sometimes comes to help him tutor his clients. Yes, really.
Subjects: Business Pre-Calculus, Engineering Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry, Engineering Calculus 1, Engineering Calculus 2, College Algebra, DMAT, any high school math,
'The Artistic Mathematician', Tutor

Jess now attends UCO with an Oklahoma Regent’s Academic Scholarship and studies both Graphic Design and Computer Science. When she isn’t at the drawing board, Jess enjoys finding new recipes to cook or bake and playing tug-of-war with her dog, Mochi.
